Location: Somewhere between Accra, Ghana & Abuja, Nigeria

Greetings from West Africa.
I’m a birth worker from the USA who relocated to Nigeria for love.
And with the African continent as my new home base, I’ve been carrying out a personal study of global birthing cultures and I want to take you along my way.
As the Director of Community Engagement for Mother’s Shea, I’m taking lead on birth worker outreach and using this platform to spotlight the stories of birth keepers around the globe.

I’m inspired by the question: how do we take care of mother’s around the world?
This particular page is for sharing my own musings on this journey. Feel free to check out the other pages for a window into the wonderful birth keepers I’m meeting.
My Birthday Experience as a Birth Worker
This was the first year that I felt intentional about how I celebrated my revolution around the sun. Usually in the days before, I would spend time finding a restaurant with an exciting menu for my special day and perhaps making reservations for a spa treatment. But this go-round, I allowed the day to arrive without much fanfare. And I checked in with myself on the day and chose peace. I just wanted to spend the day in peace and that meant bearing witness to the beauty and mystery of the nature around me. This image was the view from my cabin and it’s beauty was humbling. This is not too different from how I feel about attending births. That I am there to witness. And in fact, that in itself is quite a powerful thing.
